So how does OpenAI's algorithm work? Marketing specialist Neil Patel has identified several criteria that ChatGPT takes into account when surfacing results, including:

  • The number of times your brand is mentioned across the web
  • Positive reviews left by users about your brand, whether on your own site, Amazon, or other platforms
  • Keyword relevance between the user's query and the destination page
  • The age of your business, with a preference for companies that have been established longer
  • The number of referrals received from other websites, including affiliate articles
  • The overall authority of your business
