- AI visibility (citability)
- The likelihood that an answer engine names and cites you when a customer asks their question. Measured here out of 100, in five verdicts.
- GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)
- Optimization for generative engines: the practices that get an AI to name and cite you. Also called AI SEO or SEO for AI.
- AEO (Answer Engine Optimization)
- Optimization for short-answer engines: featured snippets, voice assistants, "People also ask". A subset of GEO.
- Answer engine
- ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity: AIs that answer in sentences, with sources, rather than with ten blue links.
- Named versus cited
- Named: your name appears in the answer. Cited: one of the answer's sources is your site (or talks about you). You can be named without being cited.
- Third-party footprint
- Everything the web says about you outside your own site: media, rankings, directories, reviews. It is your authority in the eyes of an AI.
- Citable passage
- A real question as a heading, then a self-contained 80 to 150 word answer with concrete facts. AI does not cite pages, it cites passages.
- Invisible text
- The share of your content that only appears after JavaScript runs. The hurried bot does not wait for it.
- robots.txt
- The file that tells bots what they may read. GPTBot, Google-Extended, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot are sometimes blocked there without anyone having decided it.
- Structured data (schema)
- The card your page hands the bot: who you are, what you sell, your prices, your hours. Without it, the bot guesses or moves on.
- LCP
- Largest Contentful Paint: the moment the main content becomes visible. The bot waits 5 seconds for everything: load, read, answer.
